Macumba by Nicholaj de Mattos Frisvold | Brazilian Magic, Quimbanda, Umbanda & Spirituality

Macumba: The Varieties of Brazilian Magic & Spirituality by Nicholaj de Mattos Frisvold takes readers deep into the complex, powerful, and often misunderstood world of Brazilian spirituality and magic.

Inside, readers will encounter:

🔥 Brazilian magic & sorcery
🖤 Quimbanda and its spiritual currents
🤍 Umbanda and spirit-centered traditions
🌿 Candomblé, Jurema, Catimbó & other Brazilian practices
💀 Spirits, ancestral traditions & folk spirituality
🌎 The blending of African, Indigenous, European & Catholic influences
📖 The history and evolution of Brazilian magical traditions

Frisvold combines historical and academic research with years of firsthand experience studying and practicing Brazilian spirituality, giving readers a perspective that goes far beyond surface-level explanations.

This is an excellent book for anyone fascinated by Quimbanda, Umbanda, Candomblé, Brazilian folk magic, spirit work, African diasporic spirituality, occult history, and traditional sorcery.

If you are drawn to spiritual traditions that live at the intersection of spirit, culture, ancestry, survival, and magic, Macumba belongs on your shelf.
